Get to Know: PetPlate

If you’re an instagram stories addict like me, you probably have seen ads for every little thing you’ve ever expressed interest in, and for me… welp, you can imagine that’s a heck of a lot of pet products. I noticed PetPlate while scrolling and discovered that their dog food promises “mealtime excitement, a healthier weight, better poops, shinier coats, relief from allergies, fewer vet visits, and more energy.” I wanted to know more about this up-and-comer, and they graciously agreed to the big five — turns out they’ve been around for four years and have already delivered over 15,000,000 meals and treats to dogs across the US! Tell us a little bit about how PetPlate got started?

PetPlate founder Renaldo Webb worked as a consultant in the pet food space. After learning more about the ingredients included in traditional pet foods, Renaldo set out to create a healthier option for his own pup.

Renaldo partnered with veterinary nutritionist Dr. Renee Streeter (DVM, DACVN) to design a meal plan for his own dog, and started home-cooking meals. Once his friends began requesting home-cooked meals for their own pups, Renaldo began building PetPlate!

PetPlate now ships fresh, human-grade meals to pups all over the country.

I love the idea of "kettle cooked" - what does this mean, and why choose this method over others?

Our meals are kettle-cooked in a USDA kitchen, so they are held to USDA requirements. Kettle-cooking allows us to control the temperature of the ingredients, and bring them all to the USDA requirement of 170 degrees. Kettle-cooking also ensures that the ingredients are evenly cooked and incorporated for an equal amount of meat, starch and veggies in each bite.

What's your favorite thing about running a company that caters to pet parents?

More than ever, pups have become part of the family. We love that our meals can give pet parents back more quality time with their pup!

If I wanted to change my dogs' food to PetPlate, how would I integrate it?

PetPlate meals will be pre-portioned and customized to your dog’s profile (age, breed, activity level, etc). However, it may take your pup 7-14 days to become accustomed to a new style of food.

We recommend transitioning your pup over to PetPlate slowly. Start off by mixing PetPlate with your pup’s current food, increasing the amount slowly over the next few days. We include guidelines in your first box to guide you through the whole process.

Any news for PetPlate in the future, especially in light of COVID?

We’re excited to share that we just launched a new brand look and website! Our product team is always working on new developments, and we have some new recipes in store for the future.
